There are many things you can do to prevent damage in the event of a lightning storm. Here are a few things to make sure you have and procedures to perform:

• Plug all equipment in a high quality  surge suppressor
• Backup your data to an external hard drive, server, or online backup service
• Unplug your equipment from the surge suppressors when there is a lightning storm
• Install an uninterruptable power supply (UPS)/battery backup system to gently shut down PC’s & servers in the event of a power outage
• An LED Flashlight and good book would be nice to have when your computer is offline

Following these tips will help protect your computer and network investment, and prevent alot of potential headache and system downtime, ultimatley saving you money.
